‘Suicide Squad’ Hits U.S. Platoon

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) SAIGON, March 9. A Communist “suicide squad” attacked a L mted States Army platoon today using satchel dynamite charges and hand grenades, and 10 Americans were killed and 25 wounded.

United States spokesman i said that three more members 1

of the platoon, which had numbered between 35 and 50 men, were missing after the pre-dawn ambush. The incident occurred in jungle 240 miles north of Saigon.

The platoon was part of the 4th Infantry Division engaged in “Operation Adams.” Sketchy reports from the ambush site did not indicate how many Communists the Americans killed, the spokesman! said.

Mechanised reinforcements sent in to help the unit struck two mines on the way and

arrived almost three hours after the fighting ended.

Recently, the Communists have changed from suicide charges to mortar attacks be, cause they were suffering too many casualties in the charges.
