WOMAN DIED

Attempt To Fight Fire (N.Z. Press Association) WHANGAREI, Feb. 28. An elderly woman was found dead in the remains of her fire-gutted home at Ruawai last night. She was Mrs Margaret Clarice Bellamy, aged 71, a widow. She lived alone. Her body was found in the ruins of the laundry at the rear of the house. Mrs Bellamy may have collapsed while getting water to fight the flames. The fire, which probably started in the front bedroom, was noticed about 7.45 p.m. by Mrs Bellamy’s daughter-in-law. The Ruawai Fire Brigade was called but it was unable to save the house from almost complete destruction.
