VEGETABLE PRICES
Cucumbers were in short supply on Christchurch produce markets yesterday, realising up to 28s a case. Local tomatoes were also in short supply and brought from Is to 2s 6d a pound. There was a keen demand for plums and greengages, both of which were in poor supply. Vegetables were in abundant supply but met little demand. The price list supplied by the Christchurch Fruit and Vegetable Wholesalers' Association is: Cabbages, from 9s to 12s a case; cauliflowers, from 4s to 9s a case; lettuces, to 17s a case beetroot, from 5s to 8s a casesilver beet, to 6s 6d a case; carrots. from 6s to 14s a casecelery, from 6s to 9s 6d a case; butternut pumpkin, from 14s to 18s a case; pumpkin, to 20s a case; onions, to 25s a sugar bag: spinach, to Ils a case; runner beans, to 9s 6d a case; stringless beans, to Is 3d per lb.; potatoes, to 16s a case; swedes, to 14s a sugar bag; radishes, to 4s a case; spring onions, to 4s a case; parsnips, to 12s 6d a case; sweet corn, from 4s to 6s a tray.
Grapes, from 4s to 5s per lb; apples, from 45s to 55s a case; tray peaches, from 7s to 9s a case; case peaches, from 10s to 15s a case: apricots, from 12s 6d to 23s a case: plums, from 12s 6d to 21s 6d a case: nectarines, from 10s to 18s a case; greengages, from Ils to 13s 6d a case.
