Rises In New Award
A new award for New Zealand Chartered Clubs’ employees gives a wide range of pay increases to workers. In the kitchen, approximately 13s to 13s 4d weekly increases have been given to male staff and 10s 6d to Ils for females. The minimum weekly wage for a chief cook where six or more hands are employed is now £l5 17s, £l3 6s for a second cook, £ll 6s for a third cook and £ll Is, for all other workers. Those workers who come under the category of “other workers” such as waitresses, pantrymaids, and laundresses, received weekly increaes ranging from 10 6d to Ils. Stewardesses have been aded to a section of the award dealing with stewards. Increases In this section of the award were from 15s to 15s 6d a week. A stewardess employed in any week for more than 20 hours in serving liquor shall be paid a minimum rate of £l5 5s for that week. This is an 18s 2d a week increase. Hourly rates for part-time workers have been Increased to give male cooks 9s 5d an hour. The award Is retrospective to December 12, 1966. It expires on August 21, 1968. An unqualified preference clause has been inserted, in accordance with the agreement of all assessors. The award covers Northern, Taranaki, Wellington, Marlborough, Nelson, Westland, Canterbury and Otago and Southland Industrial Districts. l
