SCOUT GUILD FORMED
The Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt. Rev. W. A. Pyatt) became the first member of the Canterbury branch of the Baden Powell Scout Guild, at the first meeting. Bishop Pyatt is patron of the guild.
It was not an easy job to start the guild because people thought it forced them to put on their scout shorts again and polish up their knots, the Dominion guild master, Mr J. R. H. Cooksey, told the meeting of SO people. This impression was not true, as the aim of the guild was to keep alive among members the spirit of the scout law and thus carry scouting into adult life. The Deputy Mayor (Mr H. P. Smith) also attended the meeting. The branch will be the third to be registered in the South Island. Branches at Dunedin and Timaru were recently registered. Officers elected by the meeting were: President, Mr A. S. Lester; secretary, Mr W. Clarke; treasurer, Mr R. L. Cook; committee member, Mr J. W. Beagley.
