By-election Rolls
A special supplementary roll had been drawn up for the Southern Maori by-elec-tion on March 11, said the Registrar of Electors (Mr F. G. Elsmore). A special roll would also be drawn up for the Fendalton electorate, where a byelection would be held on a date to be fixed, he said. The special rolls are needed to account for people who have recently come of voting age, those who have moved into the electorate since the last General Election and those who have not previously been enrolled. Facilities have also been made available in the Southern Maori electorate for those who might wish to vote as special voters on polling day. Any qualified elector may obtain a special vote from any registrar of electors or any (returning officer. People entitled to special votes are those who will be absent from the electoral dis- • trict on polling day; will not be within two miles of a poling booth during the hours of polling; will be travelling under conditions which would prevent voting; confined by illness or infirmity; approachtag or recent maternity; object on religious grounds to voting on Saturday.
