Large Entries Of High Standard

For Ms sixty-seventh annual show the Southbridge Horticultural Society received 819 entries, a marked Increase on last year’s total. A high standard of quality was maintained in all sections. Ths official opening of the show was performed by the patron of the society, the Hon. J. K. McAlpine. At the conclusion the following special awards were presented by the president, Mr D. A. L. Tong: Past Presidents’ Cup, most points in fruit, flowers and vegetables: Mr E. J, Greenwood. The A. J. Inwood Memorial Cup, most points in cut blooms: Mrs M. M. Ford. The Ella Lilley Memorial Cup, most points in cut blooms other than dahlias: Mrs Ford. Past-presidents’ Cup, vegetables: Mrs E. J. Greenwood. The J. M. Simpson Cup, most points in amateur dahlias: Mrs Ford. Lennie Cup, novice dehlias: Mrs I. C. Montgomery. Blue ribbon for premier bloom: Mrs Ford. Jessie Eyre Willis Cup for most points in carnations and sweet peas: Mrs J. Simpson. James Moorhead Cup, amateur decorative: Mrs K. Love. Wodhaugh Cup, novice and intermediate decorative: Mrs N. J. Moorhead. T. F. Penrose Cup, junior decorative, 11-14 years, Karen Maeon; junior decorative, 10 years and under: Rosemary McCartln. H. J. Greenwood Memorial Cup, most pointe in fruit: Mrs L. H. Greenwood. The Jesale LlHey Cup, most pointe in industrial: Mrs M. Thomsen. J. R. Dugan Cup, most pointe In coekery: Mrs H. Mehlhopt. Most pointe in homo produce: Mrs M. W. Horne. Moot points in High School cookery: Karen Mason. Primary School cookery: Mary Greenwood and Beverley Brears, (equal). Most outstanding exhibit In children’s section, 11-14 years: Emily Jane Abbott.
