MR SKINNER TO SPEAK

Meeting In Latimer Sq.

About 5000 persons were expected to go to Latimer square on March 15 to hear the president of the Federation of Labour (Mr T. E. Skinner), said the president of the local trades council (Mr R. A. Hill) yesterday. The meeting, he said, would be attended by Christchurch trade unions, who would stopwork to be present. All industries would be represented.

Mr Skinner would speak on the Government’s economic measures and the abolition of subsidies and their effect on the cost of living. Mr HiU sad that Mr Skinner was expected to report on his statement that the Federation of Labour was to file an application for a General Wage Order. The secretary of the Trades Council (Mr A. Ross) said that a special meeting of the council and officers and executive members of Canterbury trade unions would be held at 8 p.m. on March 6 to discuss arrangements for the meeting.
