UNION MOVE

Shortland Strike

fJV.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Feb. 7. The full executive of the Auckland Freezing Workers’ Union will meet tomorrow to discuss the strike by more than 1400 freezing workers at the Shortland works of R. and W. Hellaby, Lid. The freezing workers stopped work on Monday because of a dispute over the dismissal of eight chamber hands at the works on Friday. The company alleges that the eight men defied an order to work, while the union claims that the men have been unjustly dismissed. Neither the management nor the union is prepared to capitulate on the issue and the dispute remains deadlocked.
