SEARCH NOW ABANDONED

WESTPORT, January 25.

The search for John Seymour Porter, aged 28, of Christchurch, lost from a jet boat at Karamea on January 15, has been abandoned. He sailed a trimaran from Sydney and had beached it near the mouth of the Heaphy river

After being located by a crew of four in the jet boat. Porter was lost when the jet boat was swamped by heavy waves as it attempted to return to Karamea. The two craft are beached and steps to recover them are uncertain as it is an isolated area
