Vegetable And Fruit Prices
Fruit and vegetables were in abundant supply on Christchurch produce markets yesterday. There was no demand for pumpkins, marrows, and cabbages mainly because of the recent hot weather. Tomatoes, celery and cucumbers sold well as did silver-beet, which was in short supply. The price list supplied by the Christchurch Fruit and Vegetables Wholesalers* Association is:
Apricots.—To 22s 6d a case. Plums.—To 25s a case. Strawberries.—To 4s a punnet. Case Peaches.—To 17s a case. Tray Peaches. —To 13s 6d a case. Lettuces. —To 20s a case. Potatoes. —To 10s a case. Tomatoes.—To Is 9d a pound. Cucumbers.—North Island: from 20s to 26s a case. Nelson: to 14s a case. Carrots.—From 5s to 9s a dozen. Onions. —From 12s 6d to 20s a case. Celery.—To 23s a dozen. Spinach.—From 5s to 7s a case. Silverbeet.—To 8s a case. Marrows.—From 5s to 7s a case. Cabbages.—From 10s to 12s 6d a case. Cauliflowers.—From 7s 6d to 15s a case. Pumpkins.—From 15s to 20s a case.
