Pianist Unable To Play

fN.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, Jan. 26. Janetta McS t a y listened to the Proms concert in Dunedin tonight on a borrowed transistor radio in her hotel room. She had burned her hand on an iron and was unable to play as piano soloist.

“On impulse I decided to iron my long frock and a coat this afternoon,” Miss McStay said tonight. “I had turned the iron’s temperature dial up because the coat needed a hotter iron. “When I was taking the iron back I stumbled and bumped three fingers of my left hand on the still-hot iron. “It was impossible for me to play. Juan Matteucci (conductor of the N.Z.B.C. Sym-

phony Orchestra) was very understanding, but I am bitterly disappointed. “Even although I could not play tonight, I hope to be able to appear at Timaru on Saturday night,” Miss McStay said. This was the first time—“touch wood” that she had had to cancel her performance suddenly. Miss McStay was to have played Mozart’s Piano Concerto in A.
