Marshal Ky’s Visit
Sir, —Your recent leading article on this subject was an example of moderation and dignity which, alas, has not been reflected in this correspondence. Many of us must have felt that any allegiance we had to the National Party had been' noticeably loosened by its line-up with Australia in inviting Air Vice-Marshal Ky to visit this country. The only protest we felt moved to make was by staying away from any appearance which the visitors made in our midst. The more ecstatic of their welcomers might well be the type of people who love any occasion for drama —a really good fire or the scene of a murder. But what is wholly inexcusable is trying to attack them on purely personal grounds. Madame Ky’s beauty treatment in Tokyo is a good example. The writer of that particular piece of scurrilous chat has always been to me a person whose views are worthy of respect. They never will be again.—Yours, etc., CARACTACUS. January 25, 1967. [This correspondence is now closed.—Ed., “The Press.]
