Relief Sewer Contract Three Months Ahead
Contractors building the new relief sewer in Hereford street are three months ahead of schedule and may have the entire project completed before the end of March.
“We hope to be out of it by St. Patricks Day,” the managing director of the contracting company, Mr B. J. O’Shaughnessy, said yesterday. The rest of the work between Colombo street and Oxford Terrace could be done in about a month. Other bits and pieces including a 300 ft pipeline in Hereford place could be finished in a few weeks. The contract is due for completion in July. Lids for the two manholes at the Colombo-Hereford streets intersection will be fitted today and traffic will be able to use the entire intersection from tomorow. No further work on the contract will be done until next Monday. “Our men have worked without a break since January 2 and we are going to have a long weekend before we tackle the final section,” Mr O’Shaughnessy said. Crossing the city’s busiest intersection had not been the difficult job the contractors expected.
There were no tram lines to remove although information supplied earlier indicated there were.
