Obituary Rev. H. B. Loughnan
The Rev. Henry Basil Loughnan, S.J., formerly of Christchurch, died in Sydney on Sunday. He was 80.
Father Loughnan was born in Christchurch and attended Christ’s College in 1898 and 1899. He studied at the Royal University of Ireland. Father Loughnan was fluent in five ancient and modern European languages, including Greek and Hebrew. H-' was also an accomplished musician.
During the last war he served as a chaplain with the Australian Imperial Forces. He lectured in philosophy at Newman College, in the University of Melbourne,, and in philosophy and theology at Canisius College at Pymble, New South Wales. Ail his teaching life was spent in Australia, and he had been re. tired for some years.
