Yardley Bid By Brit Tobacco

(N.Z. Frets Assn.—Copyright) LONDON, Dec. 28.

The British American Tobacco Company announced a £23,500,000 take-over bid for Yardley, the perfume and cosmetics firm. 8.A.T., the £552m tobacco giant, which handles the export business for Imperial Tobacco Company, Britain’s largest tobacco firm, has been seeking to diversify business during the last few years to make use of its cash resources and marketing experience.

If this latest take-over bid for Yardley is successful, B.A.T. will become one of the largest perfumes and cosmetics companies in Britain.
