Runs Well On Two Blades
(N.Z. Preii Association! AUCKLAND, Dec. 29. After sea trials today, the Japanese log ship, Seiyo Maru, was reported to be running well and ready to return to Japan. A propeller blade was sheared off when the ship struck a submerged pinnacle near Cape Brett on December 16, so the opposite blade was removed in Auckland on Tuesday to balance the damage. This left two blades. A marine surveyor, Mr M. J. White, radioed from today's trials that the ship was running well at 10 knots—a reduction about four knots below her original speed. The ship will remain loaded with logs from Mount Maunganui for the trip to Japan. Severely Burned.—Doctors
today fought to save the life of a 36-year-old beggar turned into a living torch by thugs who poured alcohol over him as he slept, and then set it •light—Rio De Janiero, December 28.
