DUNDEE, Dec. 28. A habitual criminal, Thomas Weir, missed all his old prison friends this Christmas—so he stole to get back into gaol. “This is a case of a man who wants to get into prison when so many want to get out,” the prosecutor, Mr M. Macphail, told the Dundee Court today. Weir, aged about 40, admitted stealing 3s 5d worth of goods from a Woolworth’s store on Christmas Eve.
He gave himself up to Dundee police and said: “I like it better inside at
Christmas.” They gave
him his wish. Three days earlier Weir made another effort to spend a Christmas in prison when he surrenrendered to police saying he had stolen a watch from his sister. However, his sister refused to make a complaint. Weir was gaoled today for 60 days for the theft charge and will spend the Scottish New Year behind bars.
