Chief Detective Promoted

Detective Senior - Sergeant S. B. McEwen, of the Christchurch C. 1.8., has been promoted to the rank of detec-tive-inspector. He will remain in Christchurch. Mr McEwen, who is 32, joined the New Zealand Police in 1954, and was transferred to the C. 1.8. in Wellington. He was transferred to Greymouth on being promoted to detective-sergeant. Shortly after being promoted to detective senior-sergeant he was transferred to Christchurch where he has been the chief detective for the last three years. Mr McEwen has handled all types of criminal investigation, and was in charge of inquiries into the Coxhead murder in St. Albans late last year.
