O’Hagan Dominates Cash Riders

Although he failed in the main scratch race, over three miles, A. O’Hagan gave a magnificent performance to dominate the cash events in the cycling meeting at English Park last evening. O'Hagan confirmed the slight superiority that he holds over the rest of the field and K. R. Jeffery, especially, in the cash riders’ first cup race of the season, the Williams Cup. When the big bunch reached the bell, Jeffery (first) and

O’Hagan held control. Jeffery held a steady pace and with 250 yards to go, led with O’Hagan on his wheel. For a time, he stayed in front but the Australian’s fine sprinting powers won him the verdict at the finish. O’Hagan also gave a very fine performance In the one-mile handicap race when the back bunch only caught the leaders with half the final lap to ride. Jeffery took the bunch up again but once more O’Hagan won the sprint with ease.

Jeffery's turn came in the final cash race—the scratch event—when he held on from O’Hagan and F. R. Hooper. The novices’ first cup, the Cairns Cup, was a notable triumph for L. M. Vette, of Rangiora.
