Tobias showed ho was In great heart for the Auckland Trotting Cup when he clocked the splendid time of Srnln 10 and 2-ssec for a mile and a halt in winning the feature event at barrier trials at Alexandra Park yesterday. After being slow away and wide out rounding the home turn, ho came brilliantly over the last half-furlong and scored by a neck from Great Adlos The last half-mile off the front was done In a hectic 39 3-3 sec and a quarter In 79 2-ssec. Tobias and Great Adlos win contest the M. G. Pesaro Memortal on Saturday before tackling the Cup on Tuesday. It will be a major surprise If they do not prove very difficult to beat. . . Third place In yesterday a trial went to the Pukekohe four-year-old. Amend, a candidate for the President's Handicap, the second leg of the T.A.B. double on Saturday night. Amends performance was outstanding for a horse In the 3-14 class. He raced without a trail all the way and was only a length and a quarter behind Great Adlos at the finish.
