CANISTER WORKERS
Increases In Wages Canister workers will receive award wage rises from 10s to 17s 6d a week under a new award issued by the Court of Arbitration. It is retrospective to December 1. The minimum rate of pay for adult male canister makers and repairers will be 7s 8d an hour and youths may not be employed at less than the following weekly rates: under 17, £6 15s; 17 to 18. £7 ss; 18 to 19, £7 15s; 19 to 20, £9 10s; 20 to 21, £ll 7s. Female workers may not be employed at less than the following rates: under 17, £6; 17 to 18, £6 15s; 18 to 19, £7 10s; 19 to 20, £8 10s; 20 to 21, £8 17s; thereafter, not less than £lO ss. Junior female workers, employed on soldering work, shall be paid not less than the appropriate junior male rate and adult female workers, also employed on soldering, shall not be paid less than £l2 15s. After 10 years’ continuous service with the same employer, each worker shall be allowed three weeks’ holiday instead of two. The award will remain in force until June 6, 1968.
