Scholarships Increased

The Church Property Trustees will be enabled to increase the value of scholarships granted under the Johanna Lohse bequest, set up in 1910, by an order made by Mr Justice Wilson in the Supreme Court yesterday. The bequest, under the will of Johanne Sophie Christiane Lohse, grants scholarships to daughters of clergymen of the ; Church of England. The fall in the value of money since 1910, when the amount of scholarships was fixed, made an amendment of ; the bequest regulations necessary. Under the original regula- ■ tions, scholarships (tenable for three years) were of an annual value of £lOO, or £l5O if taken up outside New Zealand. As a result of the order made by his Honour, they may now be of an annual value of £l5O to £3OO, or £l5O to £5OO if taken up outside New Zealand, at the discretion of the Church Property Trustees. Mr E. J. Somers appeared for the Church Property Trustees, and Mr C. M. Roper for the Attorney-General. Variation Of Trusts An order was made by his Honour varying a trust under the will of Edward Henry Christian Ridder, formerly a buildings maintenance officer and handcraft instructor at Christ’s College, sought by Mervyn McDonald Ridder, a tailor (Mr G. W. Rountree). An order was also made varying a trust between William John Killoh, a company manager, as settlor, and Edward Bickmore Ellison Taylor, a solicitor, and providing for the settling of trust moneys in the year 2000, the variation sought on behalf of infant, unborn, and unascertained persons. Killoh and Taylor, and their trustees, Ophir Iris Taylor and Malcolm Duane Waters, a company manager, were represented by Mr K. A. Gough. Family Protection Order His Honour approved a draft order, as amended,

sought by Thomas Reginald . Brice, a sound-system technician (Mr J. R. Fox), under ’ the Family Protection Act concerning the disposition of the estate of his mother, t Alice Elizabeth Elliott, for- , merly of Rangiora.
