SHOOTING SHIELD
The Christ’s College rifle team has for the third successive year won the Victory Challenge Shield competed for throughout the South Island. The college’s team of 10 gained an aggregate of 214 points. The team consists of Cadets J. S. Rutherford, M. E. Hennessy, R. E. Mears, H. A. Best, R. K. Simpson, M. N. Blundell, P. K. Jarman, J. C. C. Davison, S. J. Gale, and N. G. Wigley. The shooting instructor at the college is Mr N. E. Heath. The Nelson College team, with 207 points, was second; John McGlashan College, 199}, was third. Christchurch Boys’ High School gained 199 points for fourth position and Waimea College scored 184 points. The challenge shield was originally presented by the late Mr G. G. Stead. It has a centre-piece of copper from H. Victory.
