Emphasis On Team Races
Emphasis will be switched from individual performance to team effort when top South Island track and field clubs contest the Pat Boot Memorial meeting at Rugby Park today. The Christchurch club, Technical, has dominated the meeting in recent years and is a favourite to win the memorial trophy again. The annual event is held to commemorate the late Pat Boot, who won the Commonwealth Games half-mile gold medal in record time in 1938. Mainly it comprises relays and team events. Of special interest will be the first competitive appearance of the season of the New Zealand sprint champion and All Black, A. G. Steel. He will run in relay events for his club, Old Boys.
