OCEANIA ZONE
Basketball Proposal (N.Z. Prest Astoetation) AUCKLAND. The New Zealand Men’s Basketball Association will put all its efforts into the formation of an Oceania basketball zone, the national council member, Mr E. Doherty, of Auckland, said yesterday. This follows New Zealand’s failure to gain admission to the Asian Games. “Australia and New Zealand have been working for some time to form an Oceania basketball zone which will include the Pacific Island groups,” said Mr Doherty. “A draft constitution has been prepared by the Australian association. “Australian and New Zealand delegates will raise the matter at a meeting of the international federation to be held at the time of the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City.
“What we want is the establishment of an Oceania zone with the top team gaining automatic entry into future Olympic Games.”
