ANOTHER SPIRAL

(N.Z. Preu Attociation) WELLINGTON, Dec. 8. The president of the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation, Mr H. W. Reed, said the increases in rail freights and fares would continue the vicious spiral of rising costs which had been gathering speed in the last 10 months. In industries with a labour content such as railways, increases in wages and other costs must be passed on, he said. This increased pressure on the cost of production of all commodities and made it more difficult for exporters to maintain competitive prices. What was most frustrating was that an end to this spiral was not in sight, Mr Reed said.
