Study Awards For Young Artists

(New Zealand Preit Association' WELLINGTON, December 8. Arts Council awards for 1967 were released today.

Two Auckland pianists will go to London. Josephine Burry has a two-year award and David Harper will study for three years either at the Royal College or under Mr Louis Kentner.

Kenneth Hoy, of Wellington, will study the viola at the Indiana University. Jacqueline Chapman, of Auckland, will study singing at St. Mary’s School of Music, Auckland. Beverley Boham, at present in London, was awarded a three-months* singing course under Pierre Bernac in Paris.

New Zealand piano courses were awarded to Edward Beauchamp and Christine Cumong. Donald Binney (Auckland), will study painting for 12 months in Europe, the United States and Mexico. A three-year post-graduate course in industrial design at the Royal College of Art in London was awarded to John Brown (Wellington). Noeline Brunning (Well-

ington) will survey secondary school art in England and Europe, and Hamish Keith, a well-known Aucklander, will study art gallery and museum organisation in Britain. Philip Trusttum (Christchurch) will spend a year in Australia studying painting in art galleries and private collections. Barry Cleavin (Christchurch) will continue his etching and graphic art studies in New Zealand, and Eileen Mayo will spend a year studying paintings in Australian art galleries and private collections. Ballet awards went to Marsha Alderson (Auckland), Jan Blach and Jennifer Carson (New Plymouth) and Mary McDonald (Wellington) who will attend the Wellington National School of Ballet for one year. Glenys Atkinson (Hamilton), Anne Moir (Auckland), John Callick, Catherin Cardiff, Adele Chapman, Andrea Hunt, Paula Hunt, Dawn Smart, Keryn Stone and Victoria Tarrant (all of Wellington) will attend daily classes at a New Zealand major studio for one year.
