NO RECORD

A cold night, with dampness in the air, conspired to prevent T. J. Tabak breaking the Canterbury 400-metre individual pursuit record at English Park last evening. Tabak was timed at smin 20.4 sec, 3.6 sec slower than the Canterbury record he holds jointly with S. J. Stephen.

Litolff tried hard but is not a true pursuit rider and without anyone holding or even beating him Tabak was forced to ride a virtual time trial.

Nevertheless, he easily beat the qualifying time for the national championships, of Smin 25sec.

Tabak was 7sec doWn on his schedule with three laps to go and lost a little more ground in the last stages. But, with scarcely time to recover his breath, Tabak was back on his bicycle to win an A grade “Devil take the Hindmost” in a brilliant sprint from J. H. Cleary and P. A. Skilling.

Supporters Beaten.—Shirley Boys' High School beat a Supporters XI by four wickets yesterday. Scores: Supporters XI 125 (I. R. Hartland 32, J. L. Williams 32; L. Evans 5/28), S.B.H.S. 135/6 (K. Arneson 46 not out; D. H. Hicks 2/25, P. A. Sharp 3/42).
