Skilling’s Hat-Trick Of Cycling Wins

With a hat-trick of wins In sprint finishes, and his winning of the glamour race, P. A. Skilling had one of his most successful meetings in track cycling at English Park last evening. The main event, the Percy Cole Memorial, a handicap mile race, was dominated by the back-markers. In one of his best performances on the track, Skilling caught this season's top-performed scratch rider, C. B. Fitzgerald, a couple of yards from the line and won by half a wheel. Fitzgerald made a mighty effort 300 yards from the finish in an attempt to win from the front. He almost did so, but Skilling won the sprint. Skilling had another notable success in a handicap three-quarter-mile when he held off J. H. Cleary after a lead-out from J. S. Danielson.

And he completed his trio of wins in the main scratch race, a three-mile, when he held off T. J. Tabak, blasting thruogh on the inside, Fitzgerald and Cleary. Tabak was subsequently disqualified for riding inside the pole line. K. R. Jeffery and A. O’Hagan continued their domination of the cash riders. Jeffery with a magnificent performance, in the company of F. R. Hooper, in the three-mile points race, and O'Hagan with some brilliant solo riding and sprinting. Jeffery and Hooper took off together in the points race, and Jeffery won all of the last eight laps to build an unbeatable lead and to win, with a nopoint handicap, from men with as many as 15 points start.
