Many Events Planned
Talent and beauty quests will be among holiday attractions being arranged at Kaikoura as part of a ChristmasNew Year carnival.
The talent quest will be held in the Memorial centre on December 28 and 29, with finalists from the first night to go forward to the second night.
The talent quest will carry prizes of £25, £l5, and £lO, with further prizes of £lO for the top unplaced competitor from Kaikoura and another of £5 for the best competitor under 14. For the beauty contest the prizes will be £lO and £5.
A highlight for the children will be the arrival of Father Christmas at the Adelphi steps on December 22. A long list of special dances extends from December 26 to January 7, with the Plunket dance on New Year’s Eve. The Kaikoura Bowling Club will hold an all-day fours tournament on January 2 and the Takahanga club has arranged an all-day tournament for Boxing Day. The Kaikoura Golf Club will hold a New Year tournament on January 1 with 27 holes of medal play. An event with spectator appeal should be the axemen’s carnival at Takahanga Domain on January 7. A highlight of the competitions will be the New Zealand championship 12in jigger board chop. Some of the events have allocated as much as £lOO for first prize. The carnival is being sponsored by the Kaikoura Lions Club to raise funds for a swimming pool, which the club has suggested should be provided.
