SLASH IN SPENDING

AUSTIN (Texas), Nov. 30. President Johnson announced yesterday that the Federal Government was to slash its spending by 5300 million dollars, but said he could say nothing yet about any tax increase.
The reduction includes a previously announced cut of about 1100 million dollars in highway construction. Other cuts would include 1000 million dollars from housing and urban development, 530 million dollars from health, education and welfare. 25 million dollars from foreign aid, 65 million dollars from the Commerce Department, 50 million dollars from the small business administration, and 25 million dollars from the Department of Labour.
