VIETNAMESE TEACHER

Reinstatement By U.S. Army

(N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright)

WASHINGTON, Nov. 29.

The United States Army yesterday ordered the reinstatement of a Vietnamese widow who had been dismissed as a language instructor on the grounds that her employment was “not in the best interests” of the United States Government. She is Mrs Pham Ngoc Thao, whose husband was shot in an ambush in Vietnam after the failure of an attempted coup against the Government of the then Prime Minister, Mr Nguyen Khanh, in 1965. On October 20, Mrs Thao and a South Vietnamese Army colonel, Nguyen Khuong, were dismissed as Vietnamese language instructors at the Army’s John F. Kennedy centre for special warfare at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
