“The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND. The Avondale gelding, Old Spice, has yet to win an open handicap but he looks to have an excellent chance to do so in the £825 Cockerton Memorial Handicap, the first

leg of the T.A.B. double at Dargaville today. Old Spice, a seven-year-old, finished a fair sixth over 11 furlongs at Avondale at his last start. His main rivals today may be Red Filou, Sentry and Undercounter. Gay Garden, a Takanini filly, is chosen to win the second leg of the double, the Jack Clune Handicap. Anchorman, Timberlands and Irish Rover may offer her tough opposition. The weather, apart from slight showers, has been good over the last day or so.
