St. Helens Changes

Provision of gynaecological theatres at St. Helens Hospital was described as “an exciting development in hospitals for the people of Christchurch.” by the chairman of the North Canterbury Hospital Board, Dr. L. C. L. Averill, at yesterday’s meeting of the board.

“When the contract is let and finally completed, we will have a complete women's hospital for the women of Canterbury,” he said. Miss M. B. Howard: That will make Auckland jealous. Dr. Averill: Work as good, if not better than that turned out at the National Women's Hospital will be possible.

Tender's for the work involved close today (Thursday). The chairman was given authority to send a recom-

mendation to the Health Department so that the Hospital Works Committee would be able to consider it before the Christmas holiday break.
