Riccarton Stakes
Killadar showed that he will add to Southland’s strong hand in the New Zealand Derby Stakes next Saturday when he gained a runaway win in the Second Riccarton Stakes at Addington yesterday.
R. M. Cameron had Killadar prominently placed on the outside about fourth or fifth all the way. Mokoreta made the pace, but Killadar had no trouble mastering him early in the run home. Killadar came on to win by two lengths from Montage, which finished strongly from near the tail of. the main bunch at the two furlongs. Montage recorded a fine staying trial for the Derby. Miles Gentry, after being well back early, came home fast near the outside of the track to cut Stylos out of third by a head. Johnny Kawa was a fair fifth, ahead of the tiring Mokoreta, Thundie and High Earl. Gilt and James broke at the start Defrost checked Alandria and Killadar slightly at the end of about a furlong-
