POLICE STATION AT CASHMERE

Closure Only Temporary

The one-constable Cashmere police station, at 2 Colombo street, has been closed for about four weeks. The Chief Superintendent of the Christchurch Police (Mr G. W. Alty) said yesterday that the closure was only temporary and was caused by the retirement of the constable stationed there for several years. Mr Alty said that the station vacancy had been advertised in the “Police Gazette” and a constable would be selected and transferred there shortly. In the meantime, the station area was being looked after from the Sydenham police station, a mile from the Cashmere station.

“There is no suggestion that the Cashmere station is being closed permanently,” Mr Alty said.
