PROJECT NOT FAVOURED
Diamond Hbr. Parking
A parking area overlooking the wharf at Diamond Harbour was not favoured by a committee of the Lyttelton Borough Council which inspected the area last month, the Mayor (Mr J. B. Collett) reported to the council last evening. The Diamond Harbour Burgesses’ Association had suggested continuing the road up the hill to a new parking area. The committee felt, however, that the project would be extremely expensive and not entirely desirable. A slipway and dinghy ramp requested by the residents would be of a permanent nature, and would not greatly involve traffic and parking, it was reported. The committee felt this project could go ahead, apart from any traffic obligations. It recommended that the car park project could not be proceeded with at present, particularly in view of other more important works needed in Diamond Harbour.
