Appeal For Early Arrival Of Show-Day Traffic
A request that motorists wishing to attend both the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s Royal Show and the race meeting at Addington on Friday should try to get to the area as early as possible was made by the chief traffic officer of the Transport Department in Christchurch (Mr A. Goldsmith) yesterday. Mr Goldsmith said that unless motorists arrived early,
it was likely that unnecessary congestion could occur. Motorists with parking tickets should ensure that they knew exactly where to go before leaving home. Mr Goldsmith said that parking at the Addington racecourse would cost motorists attending the show ss. “To avoid any last-minute confusion, motorists wishing to use this park should have their money ready,” he said. Parking restrictions on Thursday would be on both sides of Matipo street, from Blenheim road to the rail crossing. On Friday, no parking would be allowed on Matipo street, on the south side of Halls road and on the west side of Wrights road. “Motorists should take care to obey traffic officers’ instructions as quickly as possible. Hesitation on the part of any driver could cause unnecessary trouble to other road users," he said.
About 30 Transport Department traffic officers would be on duty on Friday.
