SIX-SEAT JET

Courtesy \ Elights A £250,000 jet aircraft, of the type owned by the film star Frank Sinatra, the Greek shipping magnate, Stavros Niarchos, and the German millionaire, Baron Thyssen, will arrive at Harewood from Wellington on Tuesday. The six-seater aircraft is in New Zealand for demonstrations to Air New Zealand and the National Airways Corporation for possible use as a jet trainer. Two courtesy flights have been arranged while the jet is at the Christchurch airport. It will be flown from Wellington by a pilot of the Lear Jet Corporation, the makers of the aircraft.

The Lear is a twin-jet with a maximum speed of 565 miles an hour. It can cruise at 508 miles an hour at 41,000 feet. The engines are at the rear. With auxiliary wing tanks the Lear has a range of 1845 miles.

The interior of the aircraft is lined with leather and the seats are of leather and are contoured. Two of the seats can be swivelled so passengers face. There is a cocktail bar and conference table and the luggage compartment can take 5001 b.

The Lear has been brought to New Zealand by Rex Aviation (N.Z.), Ltd. The South Island dealers, Okair Aviation, Ltd., have arranged the courtesy flights. ’
