MARYLANDS AUXILIARY
Membership Now 423 Membership of the Marylands Ladies’ Auxiliary had increased considerably to 423, including 63 life members a record of which the auxiliary could be proud, said the president (Mrs N. Bennett) at the annual meeting. Ten executive meetings and five general auxiliary meetings were held during the year and two special fete meetings. Members were to be congratulated on splendid attendances at all meetings. The brothers’ plan to move to the new Marylands at Halswell had been the chief “talking point” for some time and it was hoped this venture would meet with every success.
The building fund had increased by £BlO. The Christmas “shoppe” was the main fund-raising venture and netted more than £489. The sales table, manned by Mrs L. Chapman, raised more than £2B. This year’s fete takings exceeded the 1965 total by £3OO.
During the year 20 pairs of sheets and two dozen pillowcases were purchased. The larder was stocked with preserves and pickles. Weekly sewing groups tended to mending jobs for boys. Many letters of appreciation from mothers had been received by the executive. A welcome was extended to the new Darfield branch of 31 members, which had helped the brothers of St. John for many years, as had the Hawarden district.
The Ruru, Leeston and Rangiora branches had worked hard during the year.
