Pit Stops
The British firms of Lola Cars and Aston Martin are co-operating to make a British GT racing car, which will be powered by a new Aston Martin engine at present being developed. The car will probably race at Le Mans next year. $ $ igt Marcos Cars, of Wiltshire, is to produce limited numbers of the MiniMarcos GT car which will be similar to the car that raced at Le Mans. The car is based on Mini components and has a fibreglass coupe body. Top speed is about 90 m.p.h. and in kit form the cars will cost about £7OO in Britain. •J? $ The American speed record challenger, Art Arfons, has been making modifications to his “Green Monster” car and is expected
to make another attempt on the world land speed record in the next few days. & & When Jackie Stewart (Lola Ford) won the 200mile Indianapolis-type race at the new Fuji Speedway in Japan recently he was awarded a silver trophy decorated with pearls, and a cheque for £2500. Two American drivers, B. Unser and A. Knepper, finished second and third after Graham Hill retired on the 76th of the 80 laps. Jim Clark’s engine blew up in a qualifying race and he did not start.
