Worthy Chat In Fast Trial
"The Press” Special Service LEVIN. Worthy Chat was the most Impressive worker at Levin yesterday when final fast trials for the second day of the OtakiMaori meeting were held. The hack, Bren's Pride, also ran soundly. Work was done on the course proper, 20ft from the rails, where the going was fast. Worthy Chat (W. D. Skelton) started behind Rashid (N. E. Eastwood) and was still a little behind when they reached the line. They ran the first three furlongs of their trial in 38sec and completed the journey in Imin isjsec. Worthy Chat appeared to be doing the better of the pair on the line, but Rashid's workout was impressive.
Gus <W. D. Skelton), another Nikitini Memorial candidate, ran half a mile in 51 2-ssec, the last three furlongs in 38 3-ssec Gus looks well, but has had a chequered preparation and this might have left him in need of a race. He could, however, surprise.
W. D. Skelton had the choice of rides on Gus and Worthy Chat and has stayed with the former, which treated him so well during the winter. They Told Me (W. D. Skelton), impressive winner of the open sprint at Otaki last week, was beaten by the promising Bren's Pride (K. A. Aitken) after running half a mile in 50 2-ssec.
They Told Me, although beaten yesterday, is solid and can be relied upon to run another good race in the Wehipeihana Handicap. Bren’s Pride ran well for third last week in ground that did not suit him and on a fast track tomorrow he will be extremely hard to beat.
