Mr Holyoake Will Attend Talks
(New Zealand Press Association!
WELLINGTON, September 29. The Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) today announced he will attend the seven-nation conference on Vietnam next month in the Philippines.
Mr Holyoake said that in view of the vital interest which New Zealand had in Vietnam, he had decided to lead the delegation to the conference.
At this stage it seems that talks would cover three main categories: the military situation, the pacification and reconstruction programme, and the prospects of a nego-
tiated peaceful settlement. New Zealand was interested in the total picture, and Mr Holyoake said he knew that
all New Zealanders would be encouraged by the fact that so much emphasis was to be
given to the non-military side
i Mr Holyoake said no decit sion has yet been made on i the members of New Zea- > land’s delegation to the con- • ference. Senior representatives of
the Governments of Australia, Korea, the Philippines, Thailand, the United States and New Zealand will meet with representatives of the South Vietnamese Government in
Manila on or about October 18.
