INTEREST RATES

LM.F. Cut Wanted (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) WASHINGTON, Sept. 28. Thirty - four African nations last night called on the International Monetary Fund to reduce its interest rates and use part of its reserves for economic aid to developing countries. The Finance Ministers and other delegates of the African bloc presented their requests to the fund's managingdirector, Mr Pierre-Paul Schweitzer. Mr Schweitzer made no immediate comment on the two points, saying that he would prefer to study them further. The fund at present employs a sliding scale of interest rates depending on the amount and number of years for which member countries make drawings.
