Watch, Cheque For Rescuer

A Lyttelton watersider who leaped into Lyttelton harbour last Saturday evening to help passengers thrown from the gangways of the Wahine, Mr T. M. C. Hay, was presented with a wrist watch and a cheque by the master of the Wahine (Captain E. G. K. Meatyard) yesterday. Mr Hay said last, evening that he intended to present the cheque to the Kaitawa Fund. Captain Meatyard made the presentation on behalf of the chairman and managingdirector of the Union Steam Ship Company (Mr F. K. Macfarlane). Six members of the Wahine’s crew who took part in the rescue on Saturday evening were presented with watches and cheques in Wellington on Wednesday.
