First Issue Next November The first issue of “Meat,” the official journal of the Freezing Workers’ Association, would be published in November, said the general secretary of the association (Mr F. E. McNulty) in Christchurch yesterday. Mr McNulty will be the editor. The association, he said, had not had a journal since 1956. when the “New Zealand Freezing Worker” ceased publication. The first issue of “Meat,” of 16 pages, would be printed by Webb offset printing process by the Standard Press, Wellington. Mr McNulty said that initially 8000 copies would be printed but the number would be increased after the first issue.
The objectives of the journal were to keep members of the association informed of all new developments within the industry, to provide an avenue for opinions of members, and to provide greater democracy in the unions. The journal would deal with all current affairs affecting the workers and the industry. The title “Meat” was derived from “Meat employees and allied trades.**
