CRASH OF CESSNA

Pilot’s Leg Broken (N.Z. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, Septem ber 19. A topdressing pilot employed by Rural Aviation, Limited, escaped with a broken leg when the plane crashed into a hill near Porangahau in Hawke’s Bay this morning. When the pilot, Mr D. Carthy, aged 25, of Waipukurau, failed to return from a spraying trip on the coast, 30 miles south-east of Waipukurau, about 10 am, a search was begun. Half an hour later a pilot in another aircraft spotted the crashed Cessna on a hillside. The pilot landed and with the help of a farmer, rescued Mr Carthy. The injured man was taken to Waipukurau Hospital. His condition was not known late tonight.
