TEMPORARY BRIDGE

The North Canterbury Hospital Board was last night granted permission to build a temporary bridge from Cambridge terrace into the hospital grounds. The bridge, which will be erected for five years, is to give access across the Avon river during the construction of a new ward block and a smaller clinical services block immediately to the north of the existing buildings.

Contractors’ vehicles serving the site will have use of the bridge, and it is proposed that gates should block its use outside working hours. It is expected that the hospital building will be started in 15 to 18 months and will take five years to complete.
