Pensioner Housing Qualifications Wider
The increased subsidy for pensioners’ accommodation anc modifications of the policy meant that all persons over 60 who did not own a freehold house or whose assets were insufficient to provide for their own housing could apply for consideration for a cottage tenancy, the housing committee reported to the City Council last evening. Interested persons living in the city who had not applied already should see the Chief City Health Inspector’s department. Lido Pool.—Progress on the Waltham Park lido pool had been very slow, the baths committee said. In August the contractor had said an improvement could be expected, but it had not been evident. Unless the work was speeded up the pool was unlikely to be finished before the Christmas holidays.
Computer For Rates.—The preparation of the rate book and demands by computer was approved. The proposal of Computer Bureau, Ltd., was accepted. The annual cost over 10 years would be about £21,300, the finance committee said. This would result in a worth-while saving to the council and enable the work to be done more expeditiously. Car Park.—Mr J. Overlack, who has operated the Lichfield street parking building on lease, was given permission to continue to operate
the completed building for a trial period of six months. The council agreed to meet all outgoings it approved and to pay the lessee 10 per cent of the gross revenue received from casual parking fees. All revenue from permanent parkers will go to the council in full.
